Job Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist Indigenous Cultural Safety

Providence Health Care is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation team. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a key role in advancing cultural safety and anti-racism in nursing practice and patient/resident outcomes.

About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist-Indigenous Cultural Safety provides cultural safety and nursing expertise, consulting and collaborating with Clinical Group/Service Leaders, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to improve and advance cultural safety in nursing practice and patient/resident outcomes. This role requires a deep understanding of Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism theory, practice, and history, as well as experience working with and alongside Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.

Responsibilities
  • Exemplify and promote cultural safety and anti-racism in nursing practice through activities such as maintaining practice excellence, utilizing practice opportunities to provide cultural safety expertise, and influencing cultural safety in nursing practice.
  • Provide consultation in Indigenous cultural safety to nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team, through activities such as assisting with clinical decision-making, planning, implementing, and evaluating Indigenous patient/resident care.
  • Coordinate the evaluation of patient/resident care outcomes, identifies sub-populations at risk, and proposes solutions through activities such as evaluating the cultural safety of current practice, recommending changes in practice, and using and/or developing evidence-based innovations to improve the cultural safety of healthcare.
  • Provide leadership to nurses, leaders, and other members of the interdisciplinary team in identifying learning needs of patients/residents and staff as related to cultural safety and anti-racism, and determine priorities for educational programs.
  • Support nursing research to promote clinical knowledge development and research-based clinical practice in cultural safety and anti-racism.
Requirements
  • Masters' degree in Nursing and current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia.
  • Five years of Nursing experience with three years of recent, related experience in a clinical area relevant to the area of specialty.
  • Significant depth of understanding of Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism theory, practice, and history.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and alongside Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
