Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct the financial activities of Volunteer Manitoba.
  • Ensure adherence to Canadian charity financial regulations and CRA guidelines.
  • Create and manage budgets, delivering financial oversight and reports to the board.
  • Coordinate and supervise annual audits, ensuring timely and accurate financial disclosures.
  • Collaborate closely with the President and fellow board members to aid in the strategic financial planning of the organization.
  • Identify and address financial risks.
  • Participate in fundraising initiatives and assist in developing financial strategies.
  • Engage in formal and informal discussions to convey the current financial status, plans, and structure.
  • Facilitate a seamless and transparent financial onboarding process for new board members and volunteers.
  • Understand and support the financial needs of veterans and first responders related to PTSD and OSI symptoms.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in accounting or financial management, ideally within non-profit or charitable sectors.
  • Familiarity with Canadian accounting standards and practices applicable to non-profits.
  • Knowledge of CRA regulations and compliance requirements for charities.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Strong organizational and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the President and other board members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Training in mental health and mindfulness practices.
  • Experience working with veterans and first responders, particularly those affected by PTSD and OSI symptoms.
  • Proven commitment to ethical standards and transparency.
  • Willingness to commit substantial time and effort to the role.

Time Commitment: Flexible hours including daytime, evening, and weekend volunteering.

Meetings are typically held once a month, usually in the evenings on weekends. Other planned events will be scheduled in advance. We expect the applicant to dedicate a significant amount of time to the organization, including organizational and administrative support. As the system evolves, a balanced approach will be established.
