Export Controls Specialist

Siemens Energy is seeking an Export Controls Specialist to support the business units and the Global Export Controls team in maintaining the company's export compliance program.

About the Role

The Export Controls Specialist will be responsible for documenting, executing, and monitoring the company's export compliance program, addressing all export classes of goods and technologies.

A Snapshot of Your Day

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing export control support for internal operations and personnel.
  • Reviewing shipments and classifying hardware in the ERP system to ensure compliance with internal processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviewing technology transfers for licensing requirements.
  • Reviewing access requests to Canadian systems and technologies.
  • Ensuring conformance to export requirements and company policy.
  • Performing technology classification.
  • Assigning licenses in IT systems.
  • Reviewing customer and supplier databases against sanctions lists.
  • Assisting in determining export permit requirements and supporting the preparation of export permit submissions.
  • Supporting the review of IT systems for compliance with Canadian legal requirements.
  • Maintaining records of all permitted exports.
  • Supporting quarterly export audits and reporting.
  • Conducting export compliance audits in IT systems.
  • Assisting in providing training in support of the company's export controls training program.
  • Assisting in the continuous improvement of export processes, procedures, and work instructions.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, law, or business, or a college diploma in legal technique.
  • Experience in a high-tech corporate environment.
  • Excellent command of English and French, both oral and written.
  • High proficiency with IT systems, including Microsoft suite.
  • Experience in a legal and/or regulatory environment.
  • Eligibility to be nominated as a Designated Official under the Controlled Goods Program.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of Canadian Export Controls, the Controlled Goods Program, and Export Administration Regulations, as well as applicable industry practices and standards in export compliance.

They will also have experience in conducting audits and self-assessments, drafting and processing export permit applications, and prioritizing and managing multiple files simultaneously.
