Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Administrative Support Clerk to join our team at Island Health.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A high school graduation and a Medical Office Assistant Certificate
  • Three years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Child, Family & Community Service Act

You will also possess:

  • The ability to type at 55 wpm
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • The ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, database applications, and email
  • The ability to prepare, maintain, and control a variety of office records, documents, confidential correspondence files, and related data with a high degree of accuracy and proficiency
  • The ability to communicate, orally and in writing, including a thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation
  • The ability to foster and maintain excellent customer/client relations
  • The ability to work with vulnerable children and families
  • The ability to act with tact, confidentiality, and discretion
  • The ability to organize workload and deal with many tasks simultaneously
  • The ability to operate standard office equipment
  • The ability to physically carry out the duties of the position
Key Responsibilities

As an Administrative Support Clerk, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and maintaining office records and documents
  • Utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications
  • Communicating with customers and clients
  • Fostering and maintaining excellent customer/client relations
  • Working with vulnerable children and families
  • Acting with tact, confidentiality, and discretion
