Trauma Nurse Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Trauma Nurse Specialist. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with patients who have experienced sexual assault and provide comprehensive care and support.
About the Role
This role requires a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care, working effectively in a multidisciplinary team, and being able to think critically and make sound decisions in complex situations.
Salary and Benefits
The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary of $108,000 - $135,000 per year, depending on experience. In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a generous pension plan.
Responsibilities
- To perform comprehensive assessments, medical-legal examinations, and provide patient treatment/care and follow-up for adolescents and adults who have experienced a sexual assault within the previous 7 days
- To collect forensic evidence, liaise with law enforcement, and testify in court as needed
- To work independently while collaborating effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
- To develop and maintain strong clinical/counselling skills, including STBBI testing and treatment, monitoring/interpreting lab results, contraception/emergency contraception, and pelvic exams
- To practice trauma-informed care and be experienced working with marginalized populations
- To communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams
Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree in nursing (BN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
- At least 5 years recent relevant nursing experience
- Strong face-to-face assessment and communication skills, including the ability to respond to patients in an emergency room setting who have experienced a recent traumatic event(s)
- Self-directed and able to think critically through complex and rapidly changing situations using strong nursing clinical judgement skills and adhering to program standards without directed guidance in high-pressure situations
- Recent experience working with diverse communities, groups, and/or organizations
