Control Systems Engineering Specialist

As a Control Systems Engineering Specialist at Irving Oil Limited, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing existing refinery control system configurations by implementing new automation and protection systems and strategies. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting operational issues, making recommendations for improvement, contributing to designing and implementing changes and improvements to ensure optimum performance of plant assets and safe reliable operation.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement innovative and complex system integration, automation and control logic and safeguarding logic to enhance performance of the Refinery.
- Lead the implementation of those solutions through various development phases and manage the automation scope of workflow and project packages.
- Execute maintenance and improvement activities for process automation and protection systems including configuration and programming activities.
- Monitor automation system performance and develop solutions for optimization and to help improve efficiency.
- Provide guidance to multi-discipline project and operations teams and helps support engineering teams develop work packages through providing design input and supporting HAZOP & LOPA activities.
- NBSCETT PTech Certification, Red Seal is an asset.
- 10+ years of experience in IT including 5+ years industrial environment (refining preferred).
- Experience with OT systems such as Honeywell Experion and TPS DCS, Rockwell PLCs, SIS & Machinery Monitoring Systems.
- Experience with automation system and computer hardware troubleshooting, repair and replacement.
- Experience configuring and supporting OT networking and firewalls.
- Experience in cybersecurity and best practices in OT environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows active directory.
