Job Summary

The Adult Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit at Alberta Hospital Edmonton provides patient-centered care through collaboration with the healthcare team. As a Licensed Practical Nurse in this unit, you will be responsible for rapid assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care for Psych ICU patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Rapidly assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for Psych ICU patients.

• Manage patients who pose a risk to themselves or others, requiring rapid, dynamic, and therapeutic interventions.

• Utilize evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment modalities, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.

• Possess strong verbal communication skills, with English language proficiency required for crisis and non-crisis situations.

• Demonstrate ability to practice in a recovery-oriented and trauma-informed manner.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.

• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

• At least 2 years recent experience working with individuals with addiction and/or mental health issues, preferably in a hospital setting.

• IV certification and working with Alaris Smart Pump are preferred.
