The Director of Advocacy, Emerging Campuses will play a critical role in advancing Hillel Ontario's Israel and Jewish advocacy agenda on campuses beyond our current reach. This position will work closely with the Hillel Ontario Advocacy Task Force and senior leadership team to guide and implement Hillel Ontario's advocacy strategy on campus.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement advocacy initiatives on Ontario's emerging campuses without a Hillel presence.
- Support student leaders in their advocacy efforts, identifying specific goals and implementing strategies with measurable objectives.
- Collaborate with other Jewish and/or Israel advocacy organizations operating on campus to further Hillel's strategic advocacy objectives.
- Engage students in joint learning, campaigns, and events to promote Israel and counter antisemitism.
- Elevate and amplify student perspectives and voices in the advocacy process.
- Create and drive provincial campus advocacy campaigns to promote Israel and counter antisemitism.
- Visit campuses regularly to train and empower students in their advocacy efforts and work with them to become more politically engaged on campus.
- Mentor students to improve their advocacy skills and become more effective.
- Provide monthly reports on antisemitic and anti-Zionist activities across the campuses in their portfolio.
- Monitor social media and develop strategic relationships with university staff, including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Security, and Division of Students.
- Engage Jewish and non-Jewish students interested in advocacy and build strategic relationships with various stakeholders and clubs on campus.
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study (Master's preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in a Jewish Advocacy role.
- 3+ years of experience with demonstrable leadership and mentorship.
- High level of involvement working with University administration, political organizing, or campus life, with a clear understanding and appreciation for campus dynamics.
- Ability to take initiative, drive the advocacy agenda, and collaborate with multiple team members across different geographical locations.
- Sophisticated written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a collaborative, team environment.
- Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot effectively, under tight timelines with significant pressure.
- Knowledge and experience with network management, social networking, and social media.
- Interest and ability to build effective and meaningful relationships with staff, university students, and community members.
- Skills in community organizing, campaigning, and programming.
- Able to maintain clear thinking and a sense of calm during times of crisis.
- Energy, versatility, flexibility, and maturity.
- A base salary ranging between $80,000 - $85,000 annually.
- A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, vision and dental, life insurance, and Long-Term Disability (LTD).
- 15 paid vacation days per year, 2 Mental Health/Wellness days, and 10 paid sick days in addition to paid Jewish and Statutory Holidays.
