Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Support Professional to join our team at BC Cancer. As a collaborative member of the healthcare team, you will provide secretarial and administrative support within a team setting, maintaining a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and emergency procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and respond to calls from patients, referring calls to other parties or providing information as appropriate.
  • Determine the urgency of incoming calls and take appropriate action.
  • Relay information to and from clinical staff and outside facilities.
  • Obtain reports by contacting appropriate departments or outside sources.
  • Coordinate appointments and tests for patients in collaboration with the clinical team.
  • Access patient information systems to retrieve patient data.
  • Greet visitors and handle enquiries.
  • Arrange meetings and conferences, preparing agendas, drafting, typing, and distributing minutes.
  • Prepare materials as required, formatting and editing documents for correspondence.
  • Collect, collate, format, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Assist clinicians with research documents and grant applications by collating information and updating documents.
  • Assist with clinician scheduling, timekeeping, and coverage as needed.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC (2015), and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
  • Ability to keyboard at 50 wpm.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
