Job Summary
The Accounts Payable Processor provides support for multiple cost centers within the Finance department at The University of British Columbia. This role is responsible for ensuring that goods and services contracted and paid by the university are recorded, reliable, and processed in an accurate, timely, and auditable manner.

Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable transactions (supplier, employee, and other) in a timely and accurate manner
- Submit add or change requests relating to vendors
- Work closely with the Finance team to ensure proper purchasing procedures are followed
- Support goals of the Finance team
- Act as the primary point of escalation for AP and vendor data issues

Work Performed

- Enter and process PO, non-PO invoices, and student refunds accurately and efficiently
- Prepare invoices for archiving
- Prepare and data enter requisitions
- Verify accuracy of information, including account coding, review backup documentation, and ensure signatures/approvals are valid
- Obtain authorization and backup documentation prior to processing in the system
- Assess the accuracy of GST, PST, and/or HST on invoices and self-assess such taxes where necessary
- Respond to queries and provide support to faculty/admin units in the preparation of reimbursements and payments, interpreting financial policies and procedures
- Reconcile invoices paid to vendor statements and work with suppliers and management to ensure timely payment of outstanding invoices and credits
- Assist in gathering information for month-end reporting
- Resolve issues assigned to this role within the agreed-upon time limit
- Prepare adjusting entries for any posting corrections, if necessary

Consequence of Error/Judgement

This role plays an important part in the successful delivery of payment tools for the university. Actions taken or ignored by the Accounts Payable Processor have a direct impact on how efficiently and effectively systems and processes will perform and function. Errors in execution, judgment, poor analysis, conveyance of misinformation, incomplete information to customers, or failure to act decisively could have a detrimental effect within the procurement and payment areas and on the department at large.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, plus two-year post-secondary diploma in accounting, plus three years of relevant accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with customer service, accounting, and procurement. Experience with Workday and Optimum Control is preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, familiarity with a computerized accounting and/or procurement systems preferred and general accounting and/or procurement practices. Knowledge of Canadian tax laws is useful.
