Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) is a registered charity that supports, promotes, and advocates for the visual arts sector in Nova Scotia. We are looking for an Executive Director who shares our passion for the arts and is committed to our values of equity, sustainability, and connection.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $50,000 per year, paid out over 30 hours per week at 4 days per week. The location is flexible, with the option to work from home or in the VANS office in Kjipuktuk / Halifax.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized leader who can oversee all aspects of the organization's operations and finances. This includes grant writing and reporting, program development and implementation, and financial management. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership, fundraising, project management, interpersonal, and resource management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors and staff as needed;
  • Oversight and control of organizational finances with the support of the bookkeeper and treasurer;
  • Primary fundraiser writing grants applications, liaising with foundations, building sponsorship pitches, and increasing earned revenue;
  • Implement Visual Arts Nova Scotia's by-laws, policies, procedures, and strategic plan;
  • Keep up-to-date with news and opportunities from the provincial arts community.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A deep commitment to the arts community;
  • Excellent leadership, fundraising, project management, interpersonal, and resource management skills;
  • Knowledge of visual art practices and familiarity with Nova Scotia's visual arts community;
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Quickbooks Online, Asana, Zoom, MailChimp, and WordPress;
  • Administrative experience preferably in a not-for-profit arts context;
  • Some training in an art context is desirable.
