About the Role

VHA Home HealthCare is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Volunteer Parenting Support Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing temporary relief and support services to at-risk families caring for children from birth to four years of age.

Key Responsibilities
  • Visit families on a weekly basis for three hours, engaging in meaningful conversations with parents and providing support to children.
  • Develop and implement activities to stimulate children's gross and fine motor skills, as well as enrich their language skills.
  • Partner with parents to plan and prepare healthy and nutritious meals for their children.
  • Provide information about community resources and accompany families to local community centers, libraries, and other relevant locations.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Person-centered and caring attitude.
  • Related child development experience.
  • Experience caring for newborns and toddlers.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse families.
  • Creativity in planning and implementing activities.
  • Strong active listening skills and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with mental health.
  • Knowledge of community resources (an asset).
  • Previous volunteer experience (an asset).
  • Second Language (an asset).
