Volunteer Parenting Support Specialist

At VHA Home HealthCare, we are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Volunteer Parenting Support Specialist. As a key member of our Connected Families, Parenting Support Program, you will provide temporary relief and support services to at-risk families caring for children from birth to four years of age.
Responsibilities:
- Visit families weekly for three hours, engaging in meaningful conversations with parents and providing simple comforts to children.
- Supervise infants and toddlers, introducing new learning activities and partnering with parents to plan and prepare healthy meals.
- Provide information about community resources and accompany families to local centers, such as Early ON and libraries.
- Complete weekly logs and attend meetings and training sessions to ensure ongoing education and development.
Commitment:
- 3 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate family schedules.
- 12-week assignments, with opportunities to work with multiple families.
- Commitment to the program for 3-6 months, with potential for longer-term involvement.
Working Conditions:
Conduct in-home family visits across Toronto, with a focus on priority neighborhoods. Volunteers are matched with families in their own neighborhoods, with some flexibility required.
Requirements:
- Person-centered and caring attitude.
- Related child development experience, with a focus on working with newborns and toddlers.
- Experience working with culturally diverse families and knowledge of community resources.
- Strong active listening skills and oral communication skills to support families in their homes and communities.
