Job Description

McMaster University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager to lead the Faculty of Health Sciences' equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for advancing the Faculty's EDI strategic priorities and fostering a culture of inclusion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and lead EDI training and education programs for Faculty, staff, and learners.
    • Lead the development and implementation of complex EDI initiatives, including policy changes and strategic planning.
    • Provide strategic consultation to the Associate Dean and senior leadership team on internal and external issues and opportunities.
    • Support the Associate Dean in addressing complex EDI issues across the Faculty.
  • Stakeholder Partner Engagement and Communication
    • Develop and manage strategic partnerships and networks with external organizations to advance FHS EDI initiatives.
    • Lead communication and engagement strategies to enhance the visibility of FHS EDI initiatives.
    • Engage with the media, government, and key partners to promote FHS EDI initiatives.
  • Operational and HR Management
    • Provide operational leadership and direction for the FHS EDI Office.
    • Supervise staff and provide guidance and leadership.
    • Develop and manage program budgets and oversee financial and administrative procedures.
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Critical-Race Studies, Sociology, Education, Cultural Studies, etc.).
  • 7-10 years of managing complex EDI portfolios and 5 years of management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human rights, diversity, accessibility, and equity, including applicable legislation.
  • Demonstrated capacity to advance strategies, priorities, and action plans.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and knowledge of racialized communities and equity-seeking groups in Canada.
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to show initiative, take ownership, and work effectively on diverse and complex issues under time constraints.
  • Ability to cope with multiple demands, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines on time.
  • Ability to oversee and operationalize work plans from strategic objectives.
