Job Title: Governance Analyst

The Government of Alberta is seeking a Governance Analyst to join the Advanced Education ministry. As a key member of the Governance and Legislation Branch, you will provide comprehensive and strategic advice and services to the ministry in the areas of public agency governance, agency governance supports, and system governance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advice on board appointments, agency governance, and promotion of governance best practices, trends, and compliance with the Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act and related legislation.
  • Support public agency communities of practice, promoting best practices for public agencies and board management.
  • Lead the development of a board orientation and training plan, draft briefing materials, and respond to Action Requests related to Advanced Education public agencies.
  • Recommend enhancements to ministry and agency processes, as well as build capacity for governance through research on leading governance practices and process improvements.
Requirements:
  • University degree in Public Administration, Law, Political Science, or related field.
  • 2 years of progressive related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Research experience applying methodologies, techniques, and procedures to assess/identify emerging trends.
  • Experience conducting quantitative and/or qualitative analysis to inform the provision of advice to leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability with written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
Assets:
  • Program and operational policy development and coordination.
  • Experience in public agency governance environment, including government decision-making processes and governance policies.
  • Experience working with governance initiatives to build stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the Advanced Education ministry organizational structure, programs, and public agencies.

This is a permanent full-time position based in Edmonton or Calgary, offering a work schedule of Monday to Friday, totaling 36.25 hours per week. Candidates must submit a cover letter and resume that succinctly demonstrate their qualifications against the job requirements.
