About the Role

We're seeking a seasoned Senior Underwriter to join our dynamic Commercial Group Solutions team at Intact Financial Corporation.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analyzing, selecting, and underwriting commercial property and casualty business in our Specialty Solutions department. You will maintain a strong customer-focused approach and commitment to the success of the team and organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accept, reject, endorse, renew, or cancel policies following Intact underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws, and regulations, subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager.
  • Develop business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with our broker partners by providing exceptional service.
  • Support brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies.
  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
  • Answer inquiries and make recommendations to brokers and underwriters through verbal and written correspondence.
  • Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
  • Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required.
  • Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines, and new products.
  • Support and mentor team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in a P&C insurance environment.
  • A CIP graduate or working towards it.
  • Strong analytical and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, the ability to work under pressure, and flexibility to change.
  • Strong analytical, negotiating skills, and business savvy.
  • Can develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers.
  • Can make decisions in time-sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended courses of action, and take calculated risks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products with an intermediate Excel proficiency.
  • No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
