Job Description

We are seeking a talented Senior Contract Negotiator to join our team in Toronto. As a key member of our global legal team, you will oversee all commercial contracting matters, providing expert advice on a broad range of issues across CPP Investments. Your responsibilities will include:

Main Responsibilities
  • Oversee enterprise contracts, ensuring timely completion and effective resolution of escalations, interpretations, and disputes
  • Lead a team of contract specialists, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Collaborate with the Legal Operations team to enhance the Contract Management System, driving process improvements and implementing upgrades
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with various departments to streamline contract intake, review, and approval processes
  • Implement AI-powered redlining tools to optimize contract review and negotiation efficiency
  • Promote cohesion between procurement and contract teams, ensuring alignment and effective communication
  • Develop and execute strategies for implementing Master Services Agreements with repeat vendors, driving cost savings and process efficiencies
Requirements
  • LL.M/JD or equivalent required
  • 8+ years of post-qualification corporate/commercial legal experience, preferably in a major law firm or in-house corporate legal department
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and manage external counsel
  • Strong organizational skills, with capacity to prioritize multiple competing tasks and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Versatility and ability to work across diverse subject matter areas, adapting to changing priorities and requirements
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethics
