About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Children and Family Support Specialist to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Child and Family Wellbeing team, you will play a vital role in supporting children, youth, and families in need.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Assist Social Workers with documentation and case planning.
  • Accompany Social Workers on home visits and provide support to families.
  • Enter case plans and other relevant information into our department's case management systems.
  • Aid Social Workers in making collateral contacts and referrals to outside agencies.
Qualifications and Experience

You have completed a Child & Youth Care Worker diploma from a provincially approved post-secondary institution. An undergraduate degree in Social Sciences is considered an asset.

You possess a strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and community resources. You are knowledgeable about the physical, psychological, and emotional needs of children and youth in a family setting.

  • Effective communication skills (oral & written) and the ability to facilitate groups.
Working Conditions

Some of your work will involve accompanying Social Workers on home visits, which may require considerable driving time in various weather conditions.

While in the office, you will work in a comfortable and supportive environment.
