About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Children and Family Support Specialist to join our team at the Department of Community Services in Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Child and Family Wellbeing team, you will play a vital role in providing support and assistance to Social Workers working with children, youth, and families.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Assist Social Workers with documentation, including cultural connection tools, genograms, and Alternative Family Care applications.
  • Accompany and assist Social Workers with home visits, providing a supportive presence for families and children.
  • Enter Case Plans, Access Plans, and Plans of Care into our department's computer case management systems.
  • Aid Social Workers in making collateral contacts and referrals to outside agencies, services, and organizations.
Qualifications and Experience

You have completed a Child & Youth Care Worker diploma from a provincially approved post-secondary institution. An undergraduate degree in Social Sciences is considered an asset.

You are knowledgeable about child development, family dynamics, and community resources. You possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and are able to facilitate groups effectively.

Working Conditions

This role requires you to accompany Social Workers on home visits, which may involve driving in various weather conditions. You will also spend time in a comfortable office environment.
