As the Senior Credit Execution Manager within the Commercial Banking division, you will be pivotal in expanding National Bank's client portfolio across Western Canada. This role entails overseeing a team of underwriting specialists focused on achieving both growth and risk management goals. Collaborating closely with Commercial Account Managers, Associate Vice Presidents, and Credit Risk Management, your extensive knowledge and experience in commercial lending will significantly influence your team, colleagues, clients, and the overall growth objectives of the Bank.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide a team of credit underwriters based in Western Canada, offering coaching and mentorship while cultivating a pipeline of top talent;
  • Assist the Commercial Banking team in managing and expanding an existing portfolio of commercial lending relationships by evaluating current and prospective clients to ensure alignment with the Bank's offerings, financing structures, and risk tolerance;
  • Collaborate with team members on initial transaction assessments and deal structuring;
  • Review and manage credit applications prior to submission to Credit Risk Management, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of financial analysis, credit structuring, and risk identification and mitigation, while complying with internal policies;
  • Occasionally draft credit applications for complex transactions;
  • Support the underwriting team in presenting their credit applications, encouraging innovative thinking to develop financing solutions that satisfy both client requirements and the Bank's risk criteria;
  • Facilitate and lead discussions with Credit Risk Management;
  • Oversee and monitor the loan portfolio to ensure compliance with the Bank's established parameters;
  • Coordinate with Account Representatives and back-office personnel to confirm that necessary conditions are fulfilled prior to funding;
  • Assist the Head of Credit Execution in evaluating the credit quality of the Commercial Banking portfolio as needed.

Reporting to the Head of Credit Execution, this position will operate in a hybrid work environment, combining office and remote work. Occasional travel for client and team meetings will be required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or a related field;
  • Professional designations and/or advanced degrees are considered advantageous;
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in commercial banking;
  • Proven experience in building, developing, and leading high-performing credit underwriting teams;
  • Exceptional skills in commercial credit analysis and innovative problem-solving;
  • Strong credit writing capabilities that are clear, concise, and persuasive;
  • An entrepreneurial mindset that combines robust technical knowledge with sound business judgment;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
