Performance Optimization Specialist

Job Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and uphold performance testing strategies and methodologies, ensuring alignment with project goals and schedules.

Design and construct performance testing scripts utilizing JMeter, Java programming, and Fiddler, ensuring efficiency, maintainability, and scalability.

Utilize monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Datadog, and Splunk to assess, analyze, and enhance application performance, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.

Conduct garbage collection analysis, heap and thread assessments, and other diagnostic evaluations to troubleshoot performance challenges and deliver actionable insights for resolution.

Collaborate with development and operations teams to spearhead performance tuning initiatives, recommending and executing optimizations to enhance application performance, stability, and resource efficiency.

Provide architectural expertise and guidance to ensure that application design and implementation are optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability.

Establish and uphold performance engineering best practices, processes, and guidelines, ensuring consistent adherence by the team.

Mentor and train junior performance engineers, aiding in their skill development and career progression.

Continuously research and remain informed on the latest performance engineering tools, techniques, and industry trends, integrating them into company practices as appropriate.

Skills and Experience Required:

Requirements:

2-5 years of experience in performance engineering, emphasizing performance testing, tuning, and troubleshooting. Proficient programming skills in Java, with experience in JMeter scripting and Fiddler.

Expertise in utilizing performance engineering tools such as JMeter, Dynatrace, Datadog, and Splunk.

Comprehensive understanding of application architecture, with the ability to analyze and optimize performance at the system, database, and application levels.

Experience with garbage collection analysis, heap and thread analysis, and other diagnostic techniques for troubleshooting performance issues.

Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools like Jenkins and GitLab CI is essential for automating performance testing within the software development lifecycle.

Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes is crucial for optimizing application performance in containerized settings.

Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, along with their performance optimization techniques, is vital for a performance engineer.

Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure is important for performance engineers working on cloud-based applications.

Knowledge of load balancing techniques and content delivery networks (CDNs) is essential for optimizing application performance in distributed environments.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; or relevant experience.
