Performance Optimization Specialist

Job Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and sustain performance testing strategies and plans that align with project goals and schedules.

Design and produce performance testing scripts utilizing JMeter, Java programming, and Fiddler, ensuring that these scripts are efficient, maintainable, and scalable.

Utilize tools such as Dynatrace, Datadog, and Splunk to monitor, assess, and enhance application performance, identifying bottlenecks and potential areas for improvement.

Conduct garbage collection analysis, heap and thread analysis, and other diagnostic activities to troubleshoot performance challenges and provide actionable insights for resolution.

Collaborate with development and operations teams to drive performance tuning initiatives, recommending and implementing optimizations to enhance application performance, stability, and resource utilization.

Provide architectural expertise and guidance to ensure that application design and implementation are optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability.

Establish and enforce best practices, processes, and guidelines in performance engineering, ensuring consistent adherence by the team.

Mentor and train junior performance engineers, assisting them in skill development and career advancement.

Continuously research and stay informed on the latest tools, techniques, and industry trends in performance engineering, integrating them into the company's practices as appropriate.

Skills and Experience Required:

Requirements:

2-5 years of experience in performance engineering, with a focus on performance testing, tuning, and troubleshooting. Strong programming skills in Java, with experience in JMeter scripting and Fiddler.

Proficiency in using performance engineering tools such as JMeter, Dynatrace, Datadog, and Splunk.

Comprehensive knowledge of application architecture, including the ability to analyze and optimize performance at the system, database, and application levels.

Experience with garbage collection analysis, heap and thread analysis, and other diagnostic techniques for troubleshooting performance issues.

Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools like Jenkins and GitLab CI is essential for automating performance testing within the software development lifecycle.

Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes is crucial for optimizing application performance in containerized environments.

Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, along with their performance optimization techniques, is vital for a performance engineer.

Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure is important for performance engineers working on cloud-based applications.

Knowledge of load balancing techniques and content delivery networks (CDNs) is essential for optimizing application performance in distributed environments.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; or relevant experience.
