Quality Engineer

Location: Multimatic Inc.

Role Overview: Multimatic Inc. is in search of a Quality Engineer dedicated to enhancing manufacturing processes and ensuring adherence to the company's commitment to achieving zero defects. This role will report directly to the Quality Manager and will involve the implementation, communication, and auditing of quality systems, as well as collaboration with suppliers to address quality concerns and elevate overall supplier performance through targeted development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in drawing review meetings to evaluate the precision, specifications, and feasibility of fulfilling customer requirements as an active member of the Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) team.
  • Engage in ongoing program review meetings to assess the feasibility of meeting customer expectations.
  • Attend Engineering Change Notice (ECN) meetings and update relevant documentation and visual aids to align with the ECN Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) timeline.
  • Analyze Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) reports for dimensional accuracy, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and initial Statistical Process Control (SPC) studies for new programs in preparation for customer PPAP and annual validations, providing necessary action plans and follow-ups.
  • Contribute to gauge design and approvals, ensuring design integrity, timing, Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), and quality standards meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinate unique studies as required for assigned programs resulting from customer complaints or internal issues, collaborating with various departments to maintain the highest customer satisfaction and achieve zero defects.
  • Act as the primary contact for supplier-related issues identified at Multimatic, coordinating containment activities to address problems while ensuring production continuity.
  • Liaise with suppliers to implement and verify corrective actions at both Multimatic and supplier locations.
  • Compile data related to quality issues on Multimatic's Defective Material Notifications (DMNs), including associated costs and actions taken, presenting findings to the quality manager for closure.
  • Conduct supplier audits, generate reports, and follow up on corrective actions where necessary.
  • Prepare monthly Supplier Performance Reports and publish them as required.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers as needed.
  • Attend milestone review meetings to ensure project alignment.
  • Support activities and documentation for customer PPAP submissions.
  • Ensure all purchased and manufactured products meet the correct engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Review and manage supplier PPAP submissions, with the authority to approve based on PPAP and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate the development and issuance of Control Plans for production, obtaining necessary customer approvals.
  • Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team to develop and issue Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and work instructions.
  • Lead investigations into root causes and resolutions for ongoing production-related quality issues, engaging suppliers as necessary.
  • Generate customer-specific reports and provide updates on the status of quality issues as required.
  • Coordinate and participate in DMN process activities for non-conformances and ensure follow-up actions are taken.
  • Conduct layered audits and address any identified non-conformances.
  • Hold the authority to disposition and track non-conforming products, championing cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and corrective actions.
  • Support customer warranty reviews in accordance with company procedures to exceed expectations.
  • Participate in training sessions for new programs with operators.
  • Assist in product testing, including the development of Poke Yokes.
  • Prepare and maintain visual standards within the plant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements and Competencies:

  • A University Degree or College Diploma or equivalent experience in a relevant manufacturing field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with customers, suppliers, and various departments.
  • Ability to interact successfully with employees at all levels in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Capability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T, with a solid understanding of SPC, PPAP processes, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Certification as a Quality Engineer (CQE) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ISO14001 / IATF16949 quality standards is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Experience with PCDMIS CMM software is required; familiarity with ZEISS Inspect or PolyWorks MS is an asset.
