Automation Specialist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Automation Specialist to support our client's manufacturing facilities across Canada. This role offers a hybrid structure and can be based in any of our client's Greater Toronto Area, Winnipeg, or Brockville offices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide automation and controls support for both new and existing equipment across manufacturing facilities.
  • Quickly learn and adapt to various processes, equipment, and control systems, particularly related to automation upgrades.
  • Address and resolve technology-related issues to improve plant operations, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Work closely with plant personnel and vendors to ensure equipment performance aligns with business needs.
  • Develop and review technical specifications and project documentation.
  • Participate in or conduct training on new or existing automation and equipment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or College Diploma in engineering or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of control technology and process engineering, preferably with a food industry background.
  • Understanding of control systems with mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Continuous learning mindset and staying updated on industry advancements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading large-scale industrial engineering projects.
  • Expertise in PLC and HMI programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Modicon, Beckhoff).
  • Familiarity with robotics (ABB, Kawasaki, Yaskawa) and robotic arm systems.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation selection and integration.
  • Understanding of plant operational data, historian servers, and reporting.
