Automation Systems Specialist

As a key member of the Operations team, the Automation Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of production equipment. This includes the assembly, debugging, installation, and startup of new or modified production equipment, with a focus on mechanical assembly, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls installation.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, and Design Services to optimize and upgrade production equipment, improving manufacturing cells to ensure long-term customer satisfaction, employee safety, and business economic success.
- Work as a team member to implement new or modified production machines in conjunction with new manufacturing projects.
- Ensure operational quality and efficiency targets are maintained.
- Implement safety protocols into each automation change.
- Maintain Quality Operating Systems with respect to equipment documentation and record retention as per ISO/IATF 16949 standards.
- Improve machine maintainability and reliability.
- Comply with Johnson Electric FPS Quality, Safety & Environmental Operating Systems.
- Assist in materials acquisition and implementation and inventory control for all machine wears and spares.
- Implement Automotive Operating Systems, including APQP, PPAP, and QOS as per ISO/IATF 16949 Standards, as they relate to Facilities Engineering, including machine program libraries.
- Develop PLC and motion-based machine logic programs.
- Complete run at rate process performance testing in conjunction with manufacturing operations.
- Provide ongoing support for Operations, Quality, and Facilities management with respect to ongoing process continuous improvement.
- A technical diploma in engineering technology or an appropriate combination of education and relevant experience.
- Hands-on technical skills with respect to Mechanical Assembly, Machine Repair, Electrical Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Pneumatic Systems, PLC, and CNC-based control and logic systems.
- 5+ years of experience in the hands-on repair and maintenance of CNC machining and automated assembly applications in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of automotive systems and quality requirements based on ISO/IATF 16949 operating systems.
- Excellent communications, negotiating, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to redesign/engineer machine components necessary to improve equipment performance.
- Proficiency in related software.
- Capability to specify and source materials and equipment to best suit requirements.
- Familiarity with Fanuc controls and robotics and the programming of same.
