EXCEL Program Overview

Position: Group Leader – EXCEL Program

Role Summary: The Group Leader for the EXCEL Program plays a pivotal role in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the program at educational institutions. This position involves receiving guidance from the Program Team Leader to execute program strategies, leading students in diverse environments including classrooms, activity zones, and outdoor spaces, and orchestrating a variety of engaging games and activities. The Group Leader is accountable for a designated group of students and collaborates closely with the team, reporting directly to the Program Team Leader.

  3. Skill in responding appropriately to student interactions;
  4. Capability to exercise sound judgment in managing chaotic or conflict situations;
  5. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  6. Knowledge of standard health practices and safety requirements;
  7. Ability to follow directions from supervisors;
  8. Experience in leading recreational activities;
  9. Teamwork skills to collaborate effectively;
  10. Effective communication with parents, staff, and students;
  11. Understanding and commitment to diversity and human rights;
  12. Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  13. Willingness to engage in continuous professional development.

Qualifications:

  1. Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a degree in Child Studies, Recreation, or relevant experience in childcare or recreation;
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent;
  3. Experience in a childcare or recreational setting;
  4. Physical capabilities aligned with job requirements, including personal care;
  5. First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.

Key Responsibilities: The Group Leader in the EXCEL Program will undertake tasks assigned by the Program Team Leader, which may include:

  1. Designing, implementing, and assessing structured recreational activities;
  2. Maintaining daily attendance records;
  3. Documenting incidents and accidents as per established protocols;
  4. Actively contributing to the development and execution of the program plan;
  5. Ensuring a safe environment through student supervision;
  6. Assisting students with personal care and hygiene needs;
  7. Facilitating outdoor play and activities;
  8. Leading outdoor games and activities;
  9. Conducting general clean-up after program sessions;
  10. Encouraging positive interactions among students;
  11. Administering medication as directed by the Program Team Leader;
  12. Providing feedback on student observations to relevant personnel;
  13. Addressing inquiries from parents and school staff;
  14. Distributing program materials as necessary;
  15. Participating in staff meetings and training sessions;
  16. Performing additional duties as assigned by the Program Team Leader.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual

Compensation: $18.28 per hour

Expected Work Hours: 20 – 30 hours per week
