Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a skilled and dedicated Cook to join our team at the London Village. As a key member of our Child Care Centre, you will play a vital role in preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks to our children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and distribute meals and snacks according to menu plans and food safety regulations.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of food preparation and presentation.
  • Manage food supplies, including ordering and receiving deliveries.
  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize waste and optimize resource use.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to meet program requirements and schedule.
Working Conditions:
  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements.
  • The Program Director will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent repetitive tasks, heavy lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Completed Secondary School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
  • Cook's papers (1-year course).
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification, Level C.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Required to have a health assessment and immunization.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior work experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience required.
Skills and Capabilities:
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
