Job Title: Full Time Cook

The Salvation Army London Village is seeking a skilled and dedicated Cook to join our team. As a key member of our Child Care Centre, you will play a vital role in providing nutritious meals and snacks to our children.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Cook who is passionate about delivering high-quality food services and has experience working in institutional settings. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving meals and snacks in accordance with our menu plans and food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks to children in our care.
  • Plan and prepare menus in accordance with our food safety regulations and Canada's Food Guide.
  • Ensure that all food is stored and handled safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and control food supplies, including ordering and receiving deliveries.
  • Collaborate with our Program Director to ensure that our food services meet the needs of our children and families.
Working Conditions:
  • This is a permanent full-time position based 35 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements.
  • The Program Director will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently: repetitive tasks, heavy lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Completed Secondary School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
  • Cook's papers (1-year course).
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification, Level C.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Required to have a health assessment and immunization.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior work experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience is required.
Skills and Capabilities:
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
