Job Summary:

The Salvation Army London Village is seeking a skilled and dedicated Cook to join our team. As a key member of our nutrition services team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and distribute nutritious meals and snacks according to menu plans and food safety regulations.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of food preparation and presentation.
  • Manage food supplies, including ordering and receiving deliveries.
  • Collaborate with the nutrition services team to develop and implement menu plans.
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently: repetitive tasks, heavy lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Completed Secondary School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
  • Cook's papers (1-year course).
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification, Level C.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Required to have a health assessment and immunization.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior work experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience is required.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
