Department Overview

The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) oversees the operation and maintenance of all sewage treatment facilities across the five boroughs. This encompasses 14 wastewater treatment plants, sludge dewatering facilities, and various pumping stations and laboratories.

Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Senior Port Captain, the successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive management of vessel and crew scheduling. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with treatment facilities to track vessel activities and communicate schedule updates.
  • Assuming managerial oversight of skimming vessel operations, including crew assignments.
  • Supporting additional tasks as directed by the Senior Port Captain or Marine Section Chief of Operations.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration, along with five years of relevant experience in planning, administration, or engineering project coordination, including two years in a managerial or supervisory role; or
2. A high school diploma or equivalent with nine years of relevant experience, including two years in a managerial or supervisory role; or
3. Equivalent education and/or experience as described above. A master's degree in the relevant fields, a law degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect may substitute for one year of required experience, provided the two years of managerial experience are still met.

Preferred Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum USCG Master of Self Propelled Vessels of Less than 100 GRT License (Inland, Near Coastal, or Oceans) or Third Mate Unlimited Tonnage Upon Oceans.
  • At least 8 years of experience in vessel operations and crew scheduling.
  • A degree from an accredited Maritime College is preferred but not mandatory.
