The City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) plays a crucial role in enhancing the environment and safeguarding public health for all residents. As the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the United States, DEP oversees the delivery of over 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water daily, while effectively managing wastewater and stormwater.

Department Overview
The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) is tasked with the management and operation of facilities dedicated to sewage treatment across the five boroughs. This encompasses a network of 14 wastewater treatment plants, sludge dewatering facilities, and various pumping stations and laboratories.

Position Overview
Under the guidance of the Senior Port Captain, the selected individual will oversee all facets of vessel and crew scheduling. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with treatment facilities to track vessel operations and update schedules as needed.
  • Managing skimming vessel operations, including crew assignments and operational oversight.
  • Assisting with additional tasks as directed by the Senior Port Captain or Marine Section Chief of Operations.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, architecture, business administration, or a related field, along with five years of relevant experience in project planning or management, including two years in a supervisory role; or
2. A high school diploma or equivalent with nine years of relevant experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity; or
3. Equivalent education and experience as described above. An accredited master's degree or professional licenses may substitute for one year of required experience, but candidates must still meet the supervisory experience requirement.

Preferred Skills
Applicants should possess a minimum USCG Master of Self Propelled Vessels of Less than 100 GRT License (Inland, Near Coastal, or Oceans) or Third Mate Unlimited Tonnage Upon Oceans. A minimum of eight years of experience in vessel operations and scheduling is required. A degree from an accredited Maritime College is preferred but not mandatory.
