Job Summary

The Master Mariner - Ship Operations Leader is the first in command of the vessel and is responsible for all shipboard and portside operations. This role requires a high level of expertise and leadership skills to ensure the safe and efficient loading and unloading of product from the vessel, as well as the safe and efficient transportation of goods to pre-designed destinations.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ship Operations Management: Ensure the safe and efficient loading and unloading of product from the vessel, including docking and discharge operations.
  • Transportation Management: Ensure the safe and efficient transportation of goods to pre-designed destinations, including maneuvering, operation of navigational and radio equipment, steering, ballast water management, navigation of rivers, and directing line-handling operations.
  • Crew Management: Manage and supervise shipboard personnel, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company policies.
  • Safety Management: Implement and maintain a Safety Management System on board the vessel, conducting safety drills, safety meetings, and supervising safety-related activities.
  • Emergency Response: Direct the crew in emergency situations, prioritizing the safety of the crew, the environment, and company assets.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the vessel is in compliance with various regulations, including those set by Transport Canada and local authorities.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents involving crew injuries, environmental pollution, and damage to company assets to the highest standard.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Hold a Master Mariner license (MM STCW 95 II/2), Marine Emergency Duties (MED) training, Marine Medicare, Specialized Oil Tanker Training certificate of proficiency (SOTT) with Transport Canada Level-2 Endorsement, General Operator's Certificate (GOC), Bridge Resource Management training, Certificate of Proficiency as a Ship Security Officer, and a valid Passport and Marine Medical.
  • Experience: Have experience as a Captain of a tanker vessel equal to or greater than 3000 GRT, or experience on a similar-sized vessel with suitable experience as a First Mate.
  • Additional Training: May be required to take additional training courses in Occupational Health and Safety, Oil Spill Response, Ship handling, Accident/Hazard Investigation training, and Hazard Prevention.
