Position Overview

Manulife is seeking a Head of Strategic Initiatives and Reporting to become a vital part of the Global Data Technology (GDT) team. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities and a commitment to understanding how data technology is transforming Manulife. Reporting directly to the AVP of Strategy within the GDT team, you will collaborate with a progressive group of dedicated professionals who are focused on innovation, challenging existing norms, and shaping the future of our organization. This position will play a crucial role in achieving GDT's strategic goals and will be an integral member of the Global Data Strategy, Planning, and Business Management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the implementation of the Global Data strategy by providing clear insights into the progress of strategic objectives through various formats and forums.
  • Enhance the end-to-end data delivery process (Moving Data Faster initiative) and offer valuable insights and recommendations.
  • Lead a small offshore team to oversee the reporting and maintenance of data and metrics; collaborate with cross-functional teams to operationalize and sustain a comprehensive set of strategic and operational performance metrics that gauge the success of our transformation and delivery.
  • Conduct data analysis and provide insights on key performance indicators to ensure alignment with our strategy and recommend subsequent actions.
  • Develop essential management reports and perspectives on technology trends while promoting a top-tier data strategy.
  • Assist in the learning and development initiatives for GDT team members by closely working with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Revamp the GDT communications strategy and execution across teams, optimizing our communication processes using internal assets and leadership messaging for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Champion the design and execution of the Global Data people engagement strategy, including planning and implementing global town halls, off-site meetings, team-building workshops, and conferences.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in strategy, operational models, process engineering, enterprise organizational change management, training, analytics transformations, and data management, complemented by a post-secondary degree or a Master's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary data and cloud technologies (e.g., Azure, GCP, AWS).
  • High proficiency in MS PowerPoint and Excel (required), with preferred experience in PowerBI and Co-Pilot.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft SharePoint and Viva Engage.
  • Proven experience in integrating business and technology teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts into business-focused language.
  • Passionate about team development, including engagement, training, and professional growth.
  • Advanced skills in data management, change management, project management (both agile and waterfall), and analytical capabilities for diverse tasks or projects.
  • Experience collaborating with global team members across different regions.
  • Up-to-date with emerging technologies such as Generative Artificial Intelligence and innovations in the data and analytics sector.
  • Willingness to collaborate with teams in different time zones.
  • An interest in supporting administrative and reporting tasks is advantageous.
