Job Summary

Island Health is seeking a highly skilled Psychiatrist to join our team as a General and Assertive Community Treatment Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, providing ambulatory and outreach care to individuals in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality psychiatric care to patients in ambulatory and outreach settings, including home visits, supported housing sites, and facility visits.
  • Lead clinical teams and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to plan and lead discharges from the facility and admissions from inpatient and community referral sources.
  • Participate in the NRGH on-call schedule and provide curbside assessments as needed.
  • Attend clinical team meetings and provide reports to the Department of Psychiatry meetings.
  • Coordinate and ensure an excellent learning experience for medical and other students and residents.
Requirements
  • Relevant experience or interest working in tertiary-level services.
  • A recovery-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An established track record of exemplary team work.
  • An interest and experience working with patients living persistent or frequently recurring psychosis, substance use disorders, and other high-level tertiary care needs.
  • A passion for delivering interactive and dynamic care in the facility, ambulatory, and outreach work settings.
  • Harm Reduction lens.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Appointment to the University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Psychiatry, and with the UBC Island Medical School, is an expectation of this position.
  • Experience working with patients living persistent or frequently recurring psychosis, substance use disorders, and other high-level tertiary care needs.
