Job Overview

Position Summary
The role involves conducting thorough research, assessment, and documentation of accounting matters, overseeing the revision of Finance and Accounting policies and procedures (P&Ps), and contributing to the enhancement of Technical Accounting P&Ps. Additionally, this position manages the Finance Department's quarterly Change Control process and undertakes various special projects as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts comprehensive research and evaluation of accounting matters, new business events, transactions, and contracts to determine their implications on the Company's financial statements, including necessary documentation of accounting and reporting treatments.
  • Stays informed on proposed and newly issued Accounting Standards. Conducts impact assessments, implements new accounting standards, and documents their effects on the Company's financial statements, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to the Company's Policy and Procedure program within the Finance Department.
  • Oversees the process of updating P&Ps in collaboration with various P&P owners and develops and finalizes necessary P&Ps, including those related to new accounting standards and other Technical Accounting P&Ps.
  • Reviews P&Ps issued by the Company's parent organization to identify discrepancies with existing P&Ps and determine which require updates.
  • Manages the Finance Department's Change Control program to identify and report changes throughout the Company that may affect the Company's financial statements, including training Finance team members responsible for reporting changes.
  • Reviews the quarterly Change Control and Issue Summary report, ensuring that all changes and accounting issues are accurately documented by each department in preparation for discussions with the Controller and external auditors. Identifies accounting issues necessitating further documentation and research.
  • Leads the Controllers Learning Series, an internally developed finance and accounting training initiative, by providing training to the internal accounting team.
  • Facilitates cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing processes or procedures impacting the Finance department.
  • Undertakes additional special projects as directed by the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting and Reporting or AVP, Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a business-related field is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience is required, or 6 years with a Master's degree.
  • At least 4 years of experience in interpreting and assessing technical accounting issues is required.
  • CPA certification is mandatory.
  • Experience in drafting and implementing finance and accounting P&Ps is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the development or implementation of internal controls is preferred.
  • Proficiency in accessing and manipulating data to create formal presentations is necessary.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting data to identify relevant issues in solving business challenges, including evaluating multiple scenarios.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting operations, with demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting guidelines from FASB, AICPA, IASB, SEC, or FERC accounting and financial reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of the regulated energy sector is preferred.
  • Proven ability to establish effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors, and peers.
  • Demonstrated ability to present ideas clearly and concisely to diverse audiences at all organizational levels, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet numerous and competing internal and external deadlines, often under tight time constraints.
  • Proficient in using computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, for data management, research, analysis, and reporting purposes.
  • Public accounting experience is preferred.
