As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will:

  • Collaborate with business unit representatives to gather, analyze, and review financial data, providing insights to prepare operating and capital budgets, budget status reports, monthly management reports, executive summaries, and year-end financial statements.
  • Assist Finance Coordinators and the Finance Lead in developing and implementing financial and economic tools, including business scenario modeling and evaluations.
  • Support the Financial Services Lead and Senior Department Accountant with month-end reporting and preparation of working papers for periodic and year-end reporting.
  • Engage with business units to assess and analyze internal financial controls, risk management, and business processes as necessary.
  • Examine and evaluate grant programs, program expenses, revenues, and recoveries.
  • Conduct variance analysis through both quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Oversee the budgeting process and ensure accurate reconciliations.
  • Perform zero-based budgeting analysis.
  • Contribute to business performance reporting by analyzing financial data from recreation facilities.
  • Participate in project teams or provide subject matter expertise as required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 13 accounting courses recognized by CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant).
  • Significant experience in a complex, computerized accounting environment.
  • Technical accounting expertise, including budget analysis and preparation of year-end financial statements.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financial and Supply Chain Management (FSCM), Human Capital Management (HCM), and Hyperion (Budget Planning and Reporting); experience with Oracle SmartView for MS Office is an asset.
  • Previous experience should include knowledge of grant programs and accounting for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Strong communication skills with stakeholders and experience in handling sensitive information.
