Position Overview
This hybrid role merges the functions of a Surgical Consultant and a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Surgical Consultant/LPN will collaborate closely with the Plastic Surgeon to manage all aspects of aesthetic surgery consultations and cost discussions. Additionally, you will perform LPN duties, assisting physicians, preparing examination rooms, taking patient histories, and executing procedures such as suturing, biopsies, and excisions as directed, all while delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities of the Surgical Consultant

The Surgical Consultant's role encompasses, but is not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the Plastic Surgeon to verify surgical quotes, assess surgical candidacy, and follow up on estimates.
  • Coordinating virtual consultations for out-of-province and international patients as needed.
  • Conducting pre-operative assessments that include physical examinations, measurements, and ordering necessary diagnostic tests.
  • Collecting patient information during consultations and initiating appointment bookings.
  • Educating patients on surgical procedures and providing post-operative follow-up.
  • Managing surgical administration tasks such as inventory control, lab test coordination, record-keeping, scheduling, and patient documentation.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by management.
Key Responsibilities of the Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse's role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Treating conditions such as acne, eczema, rashes, skin cancer, atopic dermatitis, hair loss, and skin infections.
  • Monitoring, assessing, and documenting patient symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Performing basic medical and cosmetic procedures while educating patients on self-care, medication management, and disease prevention.
  • Ensuring proper sterilization of medical devices between patients.
  • Completing required training for medical device reprocessing and participating in audits as necessary.
  • Providing confidential counseling to patients regarding procedures and associated risks.
  • Assisting physicians with charting and billing requirements.
  • Supporting physicians during biopsies, suturing, and removals.
  • Assisting in wide local excisions alongside dermatologists.
  • Adhering to clinic protocols to prevent medical or clerical errors.
  • Communicating effectively within the nursing team to foster a cohesive work environment.
  • Participating in both in-house and external training as required.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms.
  • Ensuring accurate and up-to-date medical inventory.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • LPN diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the provincial licensing body.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in private or public practice.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Consultant.
  • Preferred experience in the dermatology field.
  • Familiarity with MedAccess is preferred.
  • Experience with CRM tracking systems.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Flexible availability, including willingness to work evenings and weekends.
