Role Overview
This position is a hybrid role that combines the duties of a surgical consultant and a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Surgical Consultant/LPN will collaborate closely with the Plastic Surgeon to manage all aspects related to aesthetic surgery scheduling and cost discussions. Additionally, you will perform LPN responsibilities, which include assisting physicians, preparing examination rooms, gathering patient histories, and executing tasks such as suturing, biopsies, and excisions as directed by the physician, all while delivering exceptional patient care.
The Surgical Consultant's duties encompass, but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with the Plastic Surgeon to verify surgical estimates, assess surgical candidacy, and follow up on quotations.
- Coordinating virtual consultations for out-of-province and international patients when necessary.
- Conducting pre-operative consultations that involve physical assessments, measurements, and ordering diagnostic tests.
- Collecting patient information during consultations and initiating bookings.
- Educating patients about surgical procedures and providing post-operative follow-up.
- Managing surgical administration tasks, including inventory oversight, coordinating lab tests, record maintenance, scheduling, and patient documentation management.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned by management.
The Licensed Practical Nurse's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Treating various skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rashes, skin cancer, and more.
- Monitoring, assessing, and documenting patient symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Performing basic medical and cosmetic procedures while educating patients on self-care and disease prevention.
- Ensuring proper sterilization of medical devices between patients.
- Completing necessary training for medical device reprocessing and participating in audits as required.
- Providing confidential counseling to patients regarding procedures and treatments.
- Assisting physicians with documentation and billing needs.
- Supporting physicians during biopsies, suturing, and removals.
- Assisting in wide local excisions alongside dermatologists.
- Adhering to clinic protocols to prevent medical or clerical errors.
- Communicating effectively within the nursing team to foster a cohesive work environment.
- Participating in required training sessions.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms.
- Ensuring accurate and up-to-date medical inventory.
- Carrying out other duties as assigned by management.
- LPN diploma from an accredited institution.
- Current registration with the provincial licensing body.
- Current CPR certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in private or public practice.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Consultant.
- Preferred experience in the dermatology field.
- Familiarity with MedAccess is preferred.
- Experience with CRM tracking.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Flexible availability, including weekends and evenings.
