Overview

The Role

Ulteig is seeking skilled professionals for the position of OT Network & Systems Administrator III within the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. This role involves the design, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of network devices and servers tailored to meet client requirements. The primary focus is on supporting Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and data historization in the renewable energy and water sectors. Additionally, responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers and aiding in business development efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop network infrastructure and provide recommendations to meet client specifications under the guidance of a Lead Administrator. Key design tasks include:
  • Create Layer 1, 2, and 3 diagrams to illustrate the network layout
  • Prepare an IP address inventory for all network devices
  • Establish firewall rules to ensure secure communication between devices
  • Configure firewalls, switches, and other equipment according to design specifications
  • Provide field support
  • Set up, test, and troubleshoot network devices using industry best practices for secure networking.
  • Configure firewalls to permit only authorized traffic between devices (common vendors include Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto)
  • Manage and troubleshoot VPN connections for remote access
  • Configure network switches (notable vendors include Cisco, SEL, Antaira)
  • Assist engineers and clients with communication challenges as they arise
  • Set up client servers under the supervision of a Lead Administrator
  • Install operating systems (Windows and Linux)
  • Deploy SCADA applications (such as Ignition and others)
  • Install historian databases (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, MariaDB)
  • Configure Virtual Machines
  • Set up Network Attached Storage (NAS) or recovery solutions
  • Ensure quality control and participate in QC checks and factory acceptance testing of designs and configurations
  • Stay informed on industry best practices and trends to enhance cyber controls against current and emerging threats.
  • Maintain positive client relationships with frequent interactions, ensuring responsiveness both internally and externally.

Expectations

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Associate's degree with 5+ years of experience in network or systems-related fields
  • Over 7 years of industry experience along with relevant professional network certifications (CCNP, Fortinet NSE4, VCP-DCA, Palo Alto PCNA, ISC2 CC, LPI or Linux+, etc)
  • Flexibility for a hybrid work model, with the ability to travel as needed
  • Occasional travel to work sites may be necessary
  • Must possess authorization to travel to the United States.
  • Strong understanding of the OSI model
  • Excellent communication skills to foster positive client relationships
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Commitment to quality and timely completion of tasks
  • Advanced knowledge in configuring or managing physical or virtual servers
  • Experience with Hyper-Converged Solutions or redundant server configurations is preferred (e.g., VMware VSAN)
  • Ability to mentor less experienced Administrators
  • Prepare reports and correspondence regarding project direction
  • Familiarity with network integration and troubleshooting of field equipment is preferred
  • Basic understanding of various communication protocols (DNP/Modbus/IEC61850/TCP/UDP) and physical communication mediums (RS232, RS485, copper, fiber, etc.) is advantageous
  • Hands-on experience with the design, implementation, and maintenance of network environments, including routers, firewalls, switches, and wireless systems. Experience with Cisco, SEL, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Antaira, and Sierra Wireless products is preferred
  • Knowledge of routing protocol selection and quality of service (QoS) implementation is preferred
  • Understanding of NERC CIP standards and their impact on business and IT processes is preferred
  • Experience in the electric utility sector or similar industrial network environments with exposure to SCADA devices or protective relays is advantageous
  • Familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, Python, Linux, Cisco CLI, CISCO Packet Tracer, VMware, Visio, pgAdmin, and PuTTy is a plus

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $89,700 - $121,300
* Factors that may influence your actual salary include your specific skills, education, training, job location, and years of experience related to this role.
