Position Overview

Role Summary

Ulteig is in search of skilled professionals for the role of Operational Technology Network & Systems Administrator III within the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. This position is pivotal in designing, programming, testing, and resolving issues related to network equipment and servers, catering to our clients' requirements. The primary focus will be on supporting Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and data historization within the renewable energy and water sectors. Additionally, this role involves mentoring junior engineers and contributing to business development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop network architecture and provide recommendations to meet client specifications under the guidance of a Lead Administrator. The design responsibilities typically include:
  • Creating Layer 1, 2, and 3 diagrams to illustrate the network layout
  • Compiling an IP address inventory for all network devices
  • Establishing firewall protocols to ensure secure communication between devices
  • Configuring firewalls, switches, and other equipment according to design specifications
  • Providing field support
  • Setting up, testing, and troubleshooting network devices following industry best practices for secure environments.
  • Configuring firewalls to permit only approved traffic between devices (commonly used vendors include Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto)
  • Coordinating and resolving issues with VPN connections for remote access
  • Configuring network switches (common vendors include Cisco, SEL, Antaira)
  • Assisting engineers and clients with communication challenges as they arise
  • Setting up client servers under the supervision of a Lead Administrator
  • Installing operating systems (Windows and Linux)
  • Deploying SCADA applications (such as Ignition and others)
  • Installing historian databases (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, MariaDB)
  • Configuring Virtual Machines
  • Setting up Network Attached Storage (NAS) or recovery solutions
  • Ensuring quality control and participating in QC checks and factory acceptance testing of designs and configurations
  • Keeping abreast of industry best practices and trends to enhance cyber controls against current and emerging threats.
  • Maintaining strong client relationships through regular and responsive communication.

Expectations

  • Consideration of various career paths
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Associate's degree with over 5 years of experience in network or systems-related industries
  • Over 7 years of industry experience along with relevant professional network certifications (such as CCNP, Fortinet NSE4, VCP-DCA, Palo Alto PCNA, ISC2 CC, LPI or Linux+, etc.)
  • This position offers a flexible hybrid work model, requiring travel to various facilities as needed. Local travel requirements may vary based on company demands.
  • Occasional travel to work sites may be necessary
  • Must possess authorization to travel to the United States.
  • Strong grasp of the OSI model
  • Excellent communication skills to foster positive client relationships
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Commitment to quality and timely completion of tasks
  • Advanced knowledge in configuring or managing both physical and virtual servers
  • Experience with Hyper-Converged Solutions or redundant server configurations is preferred (e.g., VMware VSAN)
  • Capability to mentor less experienced Administrators
  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence regarding project direction
  • Familiarity with network integration and troubleshooting of field equipment is preferred
  • Basic understanding of various communication protocols (DNP/Modbus/IEC61850/TCP/UDP) and physical communication mediums (RS232, RS485, copper, fiber, etc.) is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with the design, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of network environments, including routers, firewalls, switching, and wireless technologies. Experience with products from Cisco, SEL, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Antaira, and Sierra Wireless is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in routing protocol selection and quality of service (QoS) implementation are preferred
  • Understanding of NERC CIP standards and their impact on business and IT processes is preferred
  • Experience in the electric utility sector or other industrial network environments with exposure to SCADA devices or protective relays is a plus
  • Familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, Python, Linux, Cisco CLI, CISCO Packet Tracer, VMware, Visio, pgAdmin, and PuTTy is advantageous

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $89,700 - $121,300
* Factors influencing actual salary may include job-specific skills, education, training, job location, and years of relevant experience.

This position will remain posted for a minimum of 3 days and will continue to be available for an average of 60 days until a qualified applicant is selected or the position is canceled.
