Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to become part of the Evergreen Extended Care Unit team at qathet General Hospital. We encourage you to consider this opportunity to be part of our dedicated team.

As a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse in a Residential Care setting, your responsibilities will include:

  • Utilizing sound judgment and critical thinking skills to provide care to primarily older residents in a residential care environment, both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Exhibiting expertise and leadership in nursing practice while coordinating clinical interventions and evaluating resident outcomes aligned with their care goals.
  • Serving as a resource for the interdisciplinary team by offering information and coordinating ongoing resident care.
  • Supporting the efforts of RCA's and LPN's, fostering teamwork to ensure resident-centered care.
  • Enhancing the quality of life for residents and their families.
  • Consulting, conferring, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintaining and advancing clinical competence.
  • Participating in designated committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of an approved gerontology course or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Proven ability in nursing practice related to residents with chronic conditions.
  • In-depth knowledge of common medical conditions, aging processes, treatment protocols, and nursing interventions pertinent to adult care in Long Term Care settings.
  • Competence in conducting nursing assessments and interventions relevant to common diagnoses and care situations.
  • Ability to recognize necessary physical adaptations for frail elderly or physically impaired residents.
  • Expertise in End of Life care approaches and facilitating discussions on goals of care.
  • Capability in Chronic Disease Management, anticipating and addressing potential complications.
  • Proficiency in using medical equipment such as lifts, oxygen, and suction machines.
  • Skill in developing and implementing care plans that prioritize resident and family needs.
  • Experience in managing acute and chronic pain, including for residents with cognitive impairments.
  • Demonstrated ability in safe care and management of residents requiring specialized treatments.
  • Expertise in performing nursing practices relevant to designated patient populations.
