THE ROLE

At TechInsights, our Co-op Student Program is built on the principle of cultivating the next generation of talent by providing an immersive and enriching work experience. We strive to bridge the divide between academic knowledge and practical application, offering students the chance to implement their learning in a vibrant and innovative industry. Through this initiative, we aim to promote a culture of mentorship, collaboration, and ongoing education, empowering co-op students to make significant contributions to our projects and initiatives. This position is based at our Ottawa office. We are in search of a motivated Research Scientist Intern with a strong emphasis on software development to support our team. As a technically skilled individual, you will play a crucial role in helping us achieve our goals. This position requires someone who is inherently curious, creative, and analytical, with a passion for exploring emerging technologies. Your responsibilities will include conducting ongoing research, swiftly assessing potential solutions, and proficiently prototyping proof-of-concept applications. Additionally, you will be key in scaling these solutions into production-ready software for our clients. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborate with various cross-functional teams to ensure that the challenges they encounter are thoroughly understood.
  2. Gather insights from existing knowledge, scientific literature, industry experts, and other technological domains to formulate hypotheses for potential solutions.
  3. Rapidly develop proof-of-concept solutions to quickly identify the most effective ideas.
  4. Utilize specific expertise in your role to successfully transform the best ideas into high-quality beta applications and subsequently scale them to production software applications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be a post-secondary student enrolled in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or related fields.
  2. Experience with the following will be regarded as a significant asset:
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud computing resources, as well as massively parallel processing using Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
  • Image processing of extensive multi-modal datasets, including image distortion correction, warping, morphing, segmentation, stitching, and registration.
  • Object tracking, focus classification, illumination correction.
  • Machine learning and neural networks.
  • Graphs, graph search, and working with large databases.
  • Software tools such as ImageJ, OpenCV, OpenSeaDragon, Python, Java, TensorFlow.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently locate, organize, and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Proven track record of rapid learning and mastering diverse techniques.
  • Tenacity, persistence, and an inquisitive mindset.
