Personal Support Worker - Community Outreach

Many of our Personal Support Workers have dedicated over 20 years to Guelph Independent Living.

Current Opportunities:

  • Casual positions available for day or evening shifts
  • Valid G license and personal vehicle required; driving time between clients is compensated, and travel kilometers are reimbursed at 50 cents per kilometer

Key Responsibilities:

Assist adults with physical disabilities and seniors in their daily living activities. Our clients self-direct their care and live independently. Responsibilities include:

  • Transferring, positioning, and turning clients
  • Assisting with dressing and undressing
  • Providing washing and bathing support
  • Assisting with toileting, including bowel, bladder, and catheter care
  • Light housekeeping and laundry assistance
  • Meal preparation and assistance with eating
  • Implementing programs developed by occupational, physiotherapy, or speech therapy professionals

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Preferred PSW certification or relevant experience
  • Possession of a vehicle, valid driver's license, and proof of insurance
  • Able to work various shifts, including days and evenings
  • Willingness to work alternate weekends
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Police Check within the last 6 months
  • Completion of an employment medical and up-to-date immunizations

  • Provision of necessary PPE for all staff
  • Ongoing education and support for Infection Prevention and Control measures
  • Wellness is a priority; our Employee Assistance Program offers free and confidential services for employees and their families, including counseling and wellness promotion
  • Staff may work in client homes and could be exposed to second-hand smoke, pets, and household cleaners. GIL ensures that all policies and procedures are current to maintain worker safety
  • Emergency vehicle safety kits and safe driving training are provided
  • A robust Joint Health and Safety Committee is in place to ensure employee safety
