Position Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the development, administration, and execution of comprehensive occupational safety programs across the organization. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, this position is responsible for gathering and organizing data to analyze health and safety reports, identifying trends, and providing strategic recommendations to senior management regarding preventative and corrective measures. The aim is to align Health & Safety initiatives with the overarching strategic goals of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist department leaders in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources Manager to create and update safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provide support and oversight for the implementation of Safe Work Practices, Industrial Hygiene, and Emergency Response Programs.
  • Monitor workplace accommodations and manage return-to-work plans.
  • Support investigations of incidents and ensure timely completion of required reports.
  • Facilitate safety orientation training for new hires and ongoing training for existing employees.
  • Conduct assessments to ensure adherence to safety protocols among employees.
  • Perform risk analyses to prioritize operational risks and develop action plans for risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with managers and staff to enhance the Facility's Safety Culture and business outcomes.
  • Audit safety systems and processes to evaluate effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a robust Environmental Health & Safety Management system.
  • Actively engage in the EH&S Network and Governance.
  • Lead monthly Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in Environmental Health and Safety.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an environmental, health, and safety role.
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including OSHA and provincial and federal standards.
  • JHSC certification is required.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental aspects is advantageous.
  • Experience managing WSIB reporting and return-to-work processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations.
  • Ability to influence peers and promote EH&S initiatives.
  • Collaborative mindset to work effectively with various organizational sites and the EH&S Corporate department.
  • Proficient in conducting training programs and facilitating group presentations.
  • Ability to plan and organize work activities efficiently.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the capacity to develop sound recommendations.
  • Accountability and responsibility for independent judgment and successful outcomes.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven track record of achieving performance objectives and delivering results.
