Position Overview

As an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our employees, customers, and the environment. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental health and safety programs across our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough health and safety inspections at various work sites, including offices, construction projects, and industrial facilities.
  • Analyze data, prepare reports, proposals, and recommendations to enhance EHS performance.
  • Lead and manage multiple client assignments and projects, effectively collaborating with internal and external resources.
  • Provide support for return-to-work initiatives and liaise with relevant government agencies regarding work refusals, complaints, and investigations.
  • Serve as a liaison with environmental regulatory bodies, such as the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MoECP) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), to address environmental compliance requirements and spills.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor effective EHS systems, including associated programs and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement in EHS processes, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Deliver high-quality EHS projects on time and within budget.
  • Act as an EHS subject matter expert on corporate or divisional projects.
  • Oversee environmental management programs, such as waste management, PCB management, hazardous waste management, and recycling initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees on various EHS topics.
  • Stay abreast of the latest health and safety best practices, legislative changes, and industry trends. Ensure compliance with applicable safety and environmental legislation.
  • Maintain EHS management systems (ISO 14001) through audits, continuous improvement efforts, employee engagement, operational controls, and risk assessments.
  • Participate in emergency response activities for environmental incidents or health and safety emergencies. Conduct thorough incident investigations to ensure timely resolution.
  • Provide after-hours standby support on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in Environment, Health & Safety, or industrial hygiene.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is preferred.
  • Post-graduate certificate/diploma in Environment, Health and Safety is an asset.
  • Valid G driver's license.
  • Knowledge and experience with the development, implementation, and monitoring of an EHS management system.
  • Thorough understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) Legislation and Regulations, Environmental Protection Act, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, and Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
