Jordan's Principle Counsellor

Job Summary:
St. Amant is seeking a Counsellor to support the implementation of Jordan's Principle in Indigenous communities. The successful candidate will provide counselling services to children and families, working in collaboration with community partners to ensure access to necessary health and social services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and family/group counselling services to children and adults in Indigenous communities
- Develop and implement service and program goals in collaboration with community partners
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities to enhance service delivery
- Work effectively with clients, caregivers, and families to identify and address high-risk situations
- Supervise and teach others as needed
- Travel to remote communities in Manitoba, including overnight stays, to provide services
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in counselling, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, or related discipline from a recognized university
- Previous counselling experience, including individual work with children and adults
- Extensive knowledge and application of individual and family/group dynamics
- Knowledge of community resources and ability to make use of them
- Knowledge of CCPA Code of Ethics (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association)
- Ability to identify high-risk situations and respond appropriately
- Ability to work effectively with clients, caregivers, and families, to supervise and teach others, and to work harmoniously with others
- Knowledge of the literature in the area of developmental disabilities, of the history of support and treatment to individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability, and of current trends, philosophies, and practices concerning their care, education, work, and lifestyles
- Experience working within Indigenous communities/cultures is an asset
- Knowledge of an Indigenous culture and language would be an asset
- Ability to travel, including to remote communities in Manitoba, where travel by small plane and/or boat may be required, in addition to overnight stays in or around a respective community
Personal Qualities:
- Ability to demonstrate behavior consistent with the Mission and Values of St. Amant
- Possess a valid Manitoba driver's license and a vehicle is a necessity for community-based programs
