Your Opportunity:

The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (PCNP) serves as a highly skilled and autonomous healthcare provider, responsible for directing, delivering, and assessing patient care utilizing advanced nursing and medical expertise. This role encompasses a comprehensive understanding of nursing principles, allowing the PCNP to engage in complex clinical activities that extend beyond traditional Registered Nursing practices. As a vital component of the Palliative/End of Life Care team, the PCNP embodies the roles of clinician, educator, consultant, leader, and researcher, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical practice, nursing staff development, and research initiatives.

The PCNP is dedicated to enhancing nursing practices at the frontline and advancing the field of palliative care through effective consultation services. This position involves providing timely and efficient clinical care to patients in diverse environments, including community settings, rural areas, long-term care facilities, and acute care hospitals. The PCNP also plays a crucial role in mentoring healthcare team members to elevate palliative care competencies.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the PCNP will spearhead the advancement of interdisciplinary palliative care practices by developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs, participating in collaborative working groups, and engaging in research projects pertinent to Palliative Care. Travel within the designated healthcare zone is a requirement for this position.

Compensation:

Alongside a competitive salary, Alberta Health Services offers a Remote Retention Allowance of up to $3,000 annually, which is non-pensionable and calculated on an hourly basis for all hours compensated at the standard pay rate.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive health services to individuals throughout their lifespan.
  • Utilize advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and manage patient health needs.
  • Prescribe treatments and perform necessary medical procedures.
  • Leverage advanced nursing competencies in Clinical Practice, Leadership, Health Systems Optimization, Education, and Research to enhance care quality.
  • Promote the effective use of healthcare services and influence healthcare systems positively.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, candidates must have successfully completed an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and hold a master’s degree. Registration with the CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure, is essential. Additionally, current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will possess CNA Certification in Palliative Care, McMasters Case Management Education, and training in Meditech and Connect Care. Previous leadership experience, along with a background in program planning, adult education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research activities, is highly desirable.
