Opportunity Overview:

The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (PCNP) is a highly skilled and autonomous healthcare provider responsible for overseeing, delivering, and assessing patient care through advanced nursing and medical expertise. This role demands a comprehensive application of nursing knowledge, skills, and judgment, extending beyond traditional Registered Nursing practice. The PCNP plays a crucial role within the Palliative/End of Life Care framework, fulfilling multiple functions as a practitioner, educator, consultant, leader, and researcher.

The primary focus of this position is to deliver timely and effective clinical consultative care to patients requiring palliative services across diverse environments, including community settings, rural areas, continuing care facilities, and acute care hospitals. The PCNP is also responsible for mentoring and enhancing palliative care competencies within the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

In this capacity, the PCNP will spearhead the advancement of interdisciplinary clinical practices in palliative care by developing, implementing, and evaluating educational initiatives, leading or participating in collaborative groups, and engaging in research projects pertinent to Palliative Care. This role necessitates travel within designated regions. In addition to a competitive salary, Alberta Health Services offers a Remote Retention Allowance of up to $3,000 annually, which is non-pensionable and paid on an hourly basis for all hours compensated at the standard rate.

Position Responsibilities:

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will deliver a comprehensive array of health services to individuals throughout their life stages. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Integrating clinical competencies from both nursing and medical disciplines to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic evaluations.
  • Prescribing treatments and performing procedures to effectively manage and address patient health needs.
  • Utilizing advanced nursing competencies in Clinical Practice, Leadership, Health Systems Optimization, Education, and Research to enhance care quality and influence healthcare delivery systems.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have successfully completed an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and possess a minimum of a master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure, is essential. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is also required.

  • Completion of McMasters Case Management Education.
  • Training in Meditech and Connect Care systems.
  • Prior experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience in program development, adult education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research initiatives.
