Overview

The Manitoba Government is looking for skilled individuals to fill multiple Tax Auditor roles within the Taxation Division.

Employment Conditions:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Ability to travel extensively, both within and outside of Manitoba, using vehicle and/or air transportation
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's license and capability to provide personal transportation for ground travel within Manitoba
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods, up to two weeks at a time, and up to six to eight weeks annually
  • Completion of satisfactory credit screening and credit check (required for certain positions)

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in accounting and currently enrolled in the intermediate levels of the Canadian CPA program
  • Significant experience in auditing and/or accounting
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering respectful and collaborative relationships with various stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Outstanding verbal communication abilities
  • Exceptional written communication skills

Desired:

  • Familiarity with computer-assisted audit software and techniques
  • Experience in applying and interpreting tax statutes managed by the division, such as the Retail Sales Tax Act, Health and Post Secondary Education Tax Levy Act, International Fuel Tax Agreement, and International Registration Plan

Responsibilities:

The Tax Auditor role encompasses auditing medium-sized enterprises under various statutes overseen by the Taxation Division, including the Retail Sales Tax Act and the Health and Post Secondary Education Tax Levy Act, International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), and International Registration Plan (IRP). The Tax Auditor is tasked with completing and finalizing audits in collaboration with senior officials of the businesses and will be required to provide interpretations of taxation statutes to taxpayers, accountants, lawyers, and the general public with minimal supervision. Additionally, the position may involve assisting in the auditing of larger enterprises both within and outside the province.
