Position Overview

The Manitoba Government is looking for skilled individuals to fill various Tax Auditor roles within the Taxation Division. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with tax regulations and involves working with a diverse range of businesses.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have the ability to travel extensively within and outside of Manitoba by vehicle and/or air transportation.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's license and provide personal transportation for ground travel within Manitoba.
  • Must be able to travel for periods of up to two weeks at a time, and up to six to eight weeks per year.
  • Completion of satisfactory credit screening and credit check (required for some positions).

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in accounting and currently enrolled in the intermediate levels of the Canadian CPA program.
  • Extensive experience in auditing and/or accounting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster respectful and collaborative working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of computer-assisted audit software and techniques.
  • Experience in applying and interpreting tax statutes administered by the division, such as the Retail Sales Tax Act and the Health and Post Secondary Education Tax Levy Act.

Key Responsibilities:

The Tax Auditor is responsible for conducting audits of medium-sized enterprises under various statutes managed by the Taxation Division, including the Retail Sales Tax Act and the Health and Post Secondary Education Tax Levy Act. This role requires the completion and finalization of audits in collaboration with senior officials of the businesses. The Tax Auditor will also provide interpretations of taxation statutes to taxpayers, accountants, lawyers, and the general public with minimal supervision. Additionally, this position may involve assisting in the auditing of larger businesses both within and outside the province.
